Chemistry & biomedical research

My research spans synthetic organic chemistry and mechanistic biomedical science, connected by a shared interest in reaction/process mechanisms — whether in a flask or a cell.

Working in synthetic organic chemistry, focused on photoexcited nitroarenes and heteroatom transfer chemistry.

  • Conducted organic synthesis experiments involving photoexcited nitroarenes and heteroatom transfer chemistry, using TLC and GC-MS to monitor reaction progress and timeframe.
  • Characterized synthesized compounds using NMR spectroscopy and other analytical techniques.
  • Designed reaction setup, workup, purification, and data collection protocols for ongoing synthetic organic chemistry research.

Investigator on a mechanistic study examining Kidney Injury Molecule-1 (KIM-1) as a mediator of fatty acid uptake, lipotoxicity, and cellular injury in renal epithelial cells and preclinical kidney disease models.

  • Designed and executed in vitro and in vivo assays to assess KIM-1–dependent lipid trafficking, cellular colocalization, inflammatory signaling, and cell death under lipotoxic conditions.
  • Contributed to a broader mechanistic study connecting fatty acid handling in renal epithelial cells to progression of kidney disease.
